| Sheild Effectiveness by Rand |
||
| When I started I prefered the higher damage of 2 handed
weapons and in some circumstances these can still be better. Sometimes in
RVR were your target doesn't want to stand still. As of late as my thane incresses in levels Im finding more and more that the benefit of a sheild is often greater. For it to be so you may find you need to invest a little more in sheild and this may take away a little skill from your primary weapon. If your weapon dps quality and bonus are the same for a 2 hander and a one-hand weapon you are basically doing the same damage. the one hander won't do as much in a swing but swings much faster and your damage over time is the same. However if youre using a sheild you will get a number of block that you would not get otherwise and this will save a lot of damage on you particularly if you have some skill invested in sheild. If you are a secondary tank or sharing the aggro with another tank it can also be particularly effective using the guard command to block some of these shots on the main tank. This can help keep overall damage down on the main save healers mana and reduce downtime as well as possibly save the party or a party member in a real tough fight. Some Exceptions- At lower levels it might not be bad to get a little more skill in your weapon first before putting to much into your sheild skill. Having a particularly good 2 handed weapon and not a very good one-handed weapon. EXAMPLE: Hammer users in there 20's will likely find it much more
effective to do the Ashen Maul quest Received in Fort Veldon and done in
Muspleheim. This hammer is the finest hammer at that level and is a quest
open to all. It has 100% quality a fair bonus and I believe gives +4 to
hammer skill. I found for me the additional skill it gives along with high
quality and bonus made me hit more consistently and do higher damage then
many much higher conning and dps weapons. |
